Paralympic Powerlifting
Ages 11 and Up
If you’re ready to get strong and push yourself to limits you never could’ve imagined, try Para Powerlifting!
This competitive sport is open to male and female athletes over age 11 and up with the following 8 eligible physical impairments and a range of physical disabilities, including cerebral palsy, spinal cord injuries, lower-limb amputation, poliomyelitis.
- Impaired muscle power
- Impaired passive range of movement
- Limb deficiency
- Leg length difference
- Short stature
- Hypertonia
- Ataxia
- Athetosis
The bench press is Para Powerlifting’s single discipline, with 10 different categories based on body weight. Competitors must lower the bar to the chest, hold it motionless on the chest, and then press it upwards to arms’ length with locked elbows. Athletes are given three attempts and the winner is the athlete who lifts the highest number of kilograms.
Paralympic Powerlifting season is from September through July, and athletes will compete in local and travel competitions.

Gateway Games
DASA hosts a large competition every year in May. The Gateway Games offers competition for track and field, archery, boccia, paralympic powerlifting, and swimming. Keep an eye on our calendar for dates, times, and locations.
Travel Competitions

Paralympic powerlifting competition is open to male and female athletes with physical disabilities such as dwarfism, amputation/limb loss, spinal cord injury/wheelchair-users, and cerebral palsy/brain injury/stroke.
DASA is a Regional Hub and Logan University is home to the U.S. Paralympic Powerlifting Team and the day-to-day operations of the high-performance program!
